The Campus Kitchens Project
At each Campus Kitchen across the country, student leaders recover food that would have otherwise gone to waste, and put their on-campus dining halls to use after hours to create meals to feed those struggling with food insecurity in their communities. We are teaching students to see wasted resources as a sustainable solution to community issues. Since our inception in 2001, our network has recovered over 5 millions pounds of food that would have otherwise gone to waste, saving millions of dollars in wasted resources. But we also know we can't end hunger with just food so we teach students to assess the specific need in their community, and develop programs that address the underlying root causes of food insecurity as well.
